Clearsilk

ClearSilk is a non-ablative 1064nm Neodymium: Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (Nd:YAG) laser treatment that improves skin tone and texture, reduces redness, and stimulates collagen production, with no downtime. It uses micropulses from a solid-state Nd:YAG laser that primarily target areas of greater vascularity (redness), while also acting on hyperpigmentation to promote clearer, healthier skin.

Suitable for a wide range of skin types and conditions, ClearSilk offers a non-invasive solution for anyone looking to improve their skin's appearance, with the added benefit of stimulating collagen production over time.

More about this treatment

ClearSilk utilises advanced laser technology to deliver targeted pulses of light energy to the deeper layer of the skin – the dermis which is in turn gently heated. In doing so this stimulates collagen production. ClearSilk effectively treats a wide range of skin complaints. It is most powerful for treatment of redness or erythema of the skin. This could be due to conditions such as rosacea or acne, or scarring. It does also help to improve skin tone as well as fine lines and pigmentation. The treatment is typically comfortable with minimal to no discomfort and no downtime, making it a convenient option for those with busy lifestyles. The precision targeting of skin issues ensures that surrounding tissues remain undamaged during the procedure.

What Results Are Typically Achieved?

ClearSilk treatments offer noticeable improvements in the appearance of skin tone and texture. Some changes can be seen within a couple of sessions, but they are best appreciated at the end of a laser treatment course. The use of pulsed laser modes allows for a quick and comfortable treatment with no downtime, as well as a gradual and sustained improvement in skin quality.

Where patients have co-existing issues with pigmentation, ClearSilk is often paired with other laser or light therapies such as Sciton’s BBL and/or HALO to improve the outcome.

Skin Types and Treatment

Nd:YAG lasers are renowned for their versatility and effectiveness across a wide range of skin types, including those with darker skin tones. Part of the reason for this is because Nd:YAG is a non-ablative laser – meaning that it does not destroy the very top layer of the skin, which in of itself can cause issues with post inflammatory pigmentation. As the laser also bypasses the surface melanin, it reduces the risk of hyperpigmentation.

Importantly, the settings and pulse durations of the ClearSilk laser can be customised to suit each individual’s skin type and specific concerns. A skilled practitioner will assess your skin and select the optimal parameters to ensure safe, effective, and non-invasive treatment.

In summary, Nd:YAG lasers represent a powerful and adaptable option for a variety of skin conditions. Their ability to penetrate deep into the skin, combined with the safety profile for darker skin types and the convenience of minimal recovery time, makes them an excellent choice for those looking to address skin redness, dull or uneven tone, mild pigmentation issues and fine lines.

Preparing for your treatment

Prior to Arrival at Montrose

4 weeks prior: Avoid any aggressive treatments such as ablative laser or chemical peels.

2 weeks prior: Avoid abrasive treatments including laser micro-needling, prolonged or recent UV exposure, aggressive facials, and irritant topical products (acids, retinol, vitamin C, or mechanical scrubs).

Sun exposure: Avoid direct sun exposure one month prior to your treatment to ensure optimal results and reduce the risk of complications.

On Arrival at Montrose

Your practitioner will remove any makeup, discuss any concerns, review your medical history, and photograph the treatment area in question.

During the Treatment

The appropriate settings will be selected by your practitioner depending on your main concerns and skin type. You may feel a mild heat sensation, though generally, the treatment is very comfortable. Timings of treatment will depend on the concern and how many areas are being treated, typically a full face of ClearSilk can be administered in 15 minutes. Post-treatment, there may be some erythema (local skin redness) that may last a couple of hours to days.

Post Treatment Advice

  • 12 hours: if needed, cold compresses can be used for 10 minutes every hour on the skin. Makeup can be applied immediately after the procedure as the skin is unbroken.
  • 14 days: Do not apply retinoids or vitamin C.
  • 48 hours: Avoid saunas, hot baths, jacuzzis, exercise, or sweat-inducing activities.
  • For up to 4 weeks: From immediately after the treatment, avoid direct sunlight on the treated areas for at least 4 weeks and use a wide brimmed hat when in the sun. Apply broad-spectrum physical SPF 50 - ideally with UVA UVB and protection against visible light. Be aware that some side effects, such as mild redness or swelling, may appear within 24-48 hours after the treatment.

Questions you may have

Suitable candidates include individuals seeking to improve skin tone – especially redness of the skin, texture, fine lines and some pigmentation. This treatment is ideal for those who want a non-invasive option with minimal downtime and are looking to rejuvenate their skin. ClearSilk is also suitable for people with various skin types, including sensitive skin, as the laser technology is designed to be gentle yet effective.

Individuals with active infections, inflammatory skin conditions, or open wounds should avoid this procedure. Pregnant women and individuals with a history of skin cancer or photosensitivity disorders may not be suitable candidates. Consult a dermatologist or plastic surgeon for personalised advice. Additionally, those who have recently undergone other aggressive skin treatments or have excessive sun exposure may need to wait before considering ClearSilk therapy to prevent complications.

Adherence to post-procedural instructions and later, skin maintenance and sun protection are essential to optimise and prolong the benefits of ClearSilk treatments. Your practitioner will provide a full aftercare protocol following your treatments. It is important to avoid direct sunlight and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with high SPF to protect the treated skin. Moisturising regularly and avoiding harsh skincare products such as retinoids or exfoliants for a specified period will help the skin heal properly. Staying hydrated and following any additional advice from your practitioner will contribute to better and longer-lasting results.

Common side effects may include temporary redness, swelling, and mild discomfort resembling a sunburn. Adhering to post-treatment care guidelines helps minimise these effects and promotes optimal healing. These side effects are usually mild and resolve within a few days. If the post-procedural

instructions are not adhered to, there is a greater risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation although this is rare.

ClearSilk laser therapy is designed to be a very comfortable and minimally invasive treatment. Most patients report feeling a mild warming sensation during the procedure, but it is generally well-tolerated without pain. The procedure does not require any numbing beforehand. The laser’s precise wavelength allows it to target the skin gently, promoting healing and collagen production without causing discomfort associated with more aggressive laser treatments. Any mild discomfort experienced typically subsides quickly. This makes ClearSilk an appealing option for individuals seeking effective skin rejuvenation with minimal discomfort and downtime.
