Photobiomodulation (Red Light Therapy / LED Light Therapy)

Photobiomodulation (also known as Red Light Therapy or LED Light Therapy) at Montrose London is a non-invasive, light-based treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular repair, improve skin quality, reduce inflammation and accelerate healing after aesthetic procedures. Using specific wavelengths of light, photobiomodulation enhances mitochondrial activity, improves circulation, reduces inflammation and promotes tissue repair. It is widely used to improve skin quality, accelerate recovery following aesthetic procedures, and support overall skin and tissue health with no downtime.

More about this treatment

What is photobiomodulation?

Photobiomodulation (also known as Red Light Therapy or LED Light Therapy)  is an advanced therapeutic treatment that uses targeted wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular activity. The light energy penetrates the skin and is absorbed by mitochondria within cells, increasing ATP (energy) production. This enhanced cellular energy drives tissue repair, reduces oxidative stress and improves cellular function, making photobiomodulation an effective treatment for skin rejuvenation, healing and inflammation reduction.

How photobiomodulation works

During treatment, the light source is positioned over the target area, allowing therapeutic wavelengths to penetrate the skin. This interaction improves oxygen utilisation and cellular metabolism, resulting in enhanced cell regeneration and repair. Increased blood flow and reduced inflammatory markers further support healthier, more resilient skin and tissues.

This process is entirely non-thermal, meaning it does not damage tissue or cause discomfort. The treatment is passive and relaxing, with patients experiencing a gentle warming sensation or no sensation at all. Sessions typically last 20 – 30 minutes and require no recovery time.

Photobiomodulation can be used as a standalone treatment or combined with other aesthetic and regenerative procedures to enhance outcomes and speed recovery.

What results are typically achieved?

Photobiomodulation treatments can lead to:

  • Improved skin tone and texture
  • Enhanced wound healing and recovery
  • Reduced inflammation and redness
  • Improved circulation and oxygenation
  • Healthier, more resilient skin
  • Support for collagen production over time

Results are cumulative, with optimal benefits seen after a course of treatments.
